Chelsea have officially opened negotiations to sign FC Barcelona goalkeeper and captain Marc-André ter Stegen in the upcoming January transfer window.
According to sources close to the club, Barcelona’s management is reportedly open to the idea of parting ways with their long-serving shot-stopper. The Catalan side would consider either a loan deal until the end of the season or a permanent transfer, as they aim to reduce their wage bill and strengthen their financial position.
Ter Stegen, who joined Barça in 2014, has been one of the team’s most consistent performers and currently serves as the club captain. However, growing financial pressure at Camp Nou could pave the way for a shock exit in the coming months.
Further updates are expected as talks progress between the two clubs.
